Mount Gay Round Barbados Race

- Course and distance: Yachts circumnavigate the island clockwise, starting from the West Coast of Barbados, covering approximately 90 miles.
- Sailing conditions: The race is known for its constant trade winds and excellent sailing conditions.
- Starting and ending point: The race begins and ends at the Barbados Cruising Club.
- Route highlights:
- Boats sail through historic Carlisle Bay.
- Pass the Bridgetown deep water harbour to starboard.
- Navigate a 20-mile stretch of calm water along the West Coast, passing luxurious homes and towns like Holetown and Speightstown.
- Round the northern tip of the island by midday, facing the open Atlantic on the East Coast.
- Tackle a challenging 10-mile leg with tricky currents, shifting winds, and large waves.
- Sail a 20-mile stretch, maximising speed to clear Bathsheba around 1 pm and later East Point.
- Enjoy an 18-mile downwind run along the South Coast, passing Oistens, Rockley, and Worthing between 2 pm and 4 pm.
- Finish by navigating around the island’s Southwest corner back to Carlisle Bay.
