Round Barbados Sailing Week

A historic and evolving sailing event

Round Barbados Sailing Week is a key event in the Caribbean sailing calendar, taking place every January. It draws sailors from around the world for a mix of competitive racing and leisurely sailing. Before the pandemic, it regularly attracted 40 to 60 boats for races like the Mount Gay Round Barbados Race. Recently, the event has grown to include more activities such as dinghy races, kiteboarding, and wing foiling, making it appealing to a wider audience. Participation is increasing, with 22 yachts in 2024 and 28 in 2025, and expectations for over 30 yachts in 2026.

Round Barbados racing and activities

The week features several races, including the challenging Mount Gay Round Barbados Race, which takes sailors around the island. This race is known for its excellent sailing conditions, thanks to steady trade winds and beautiful coastal scenery. Additionally, there is the Rum to Spice Regatta, which starts in Barbados and ends in Grenada, linking up with Grenada Sailing Week. This adds an extra adventure for those looking to extend their journey. Round Barbados Sailing Week also offers a chance to experience the local culture and enjoy the island’s famous hospitality. The event includes social gatherings and beach parties, providing a relaxed atmosphere off the water.
