St Thomas International Regatta

The St. Thomas International Regatta, dubbed the “Crown Jewel of the Caribbean,” draws yachtsmen and yachtswomen from across the globe to the U.S. Virgin Islands for a weekend of competition. For many, it blends top-tier racing with a family holiday, forging an annual pilgrimage thanks to the exceptional conditions and fierce yet friendly rivalry.
Launched in 1974 by visionaries like Lee Kelbert, the regatta was born to showcase St. Thomas’s world-class sailing venue, backed by the storied St. Thomas Yacht Club—founded in 1964—which has nurtured Olympic medallists such as Peter Holmberg and nurtured a powerhouse junior programme with national champions and world-ranked racers.
