SUMMARY:Viking Explorers Rally
DESCRIPTION:Sail the Atlantic with confidence with the Viking Explorers Rally\nFor many sailors\, crossing the Atlantic is a lifelong dream\, but planning the passage can be daunting. That’s where the Viking Explorers Rally comes in. This transatlantic rally offers a supportive and friendly way to sail from Europe to the Caribbean\, perfect for cruisers who want adventure without going it alone.\n\nThe rally departs each January from Las Palmas\, Gran Canaria\, and typically arrives in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. It makes it an ideal choice for those dreaming of tropical anchorages and blue water sailing.\n\nThe Viking Explorers Rally is unique in its small-group\, non-commercial approach. Unlike some larger rallies\, this one focuses on creating a real community among participants.\n\nThe fleet is limited to around 20 to 25 boats\, allowing sailors to get to know each other before\, during\, and after the crossing.\n\nOrganisers provide weather routing\, technical support\, safety checks\, and social events\, all designed to make the experience safer and more enjoyable. It’s perfect for families\, couples\, friends\, and solo sailors who want to share the crossing with like-minded adventurers\, but without the pressure of racing.\nThe perfect gateway to Caribbean cruising\nThe rally ends in the Caribbean\, but the journey doesn’t stop there. Arriving in Saint Vincent\, participants are already well-positioned to explore the Grenadines\, Saint Lucia\, Martinique\, and beyond.\n\nFor many sailors\, this is just the beginning of their Caribbean season. From here\, you can follow the trade winds north or south\, island-hop\, and discover local cultures.\n\nThe rally also helps boats clear into customs and offers arrival support\, making that first Caribbean landfall smooth and stress-free.

SUMMARY:Carnaval de Saint Martin
DESCRIPTION:If you are sailing the Caribbean between February and March\, the French side of Saint-Martin offers a colourful and joyful experience: Carnaval de Saint-Martin. It is a great reason to stop your boat and enjoy the local culture during your cruise. \nCarnaval in Saint-Martin is full of energy\, music\, dancing\, and tradition. The celebration lasts for several weeks\, but the big events usually happen in the two weeks before Ash Wednesday (start of Lent). The main town of Marigot becomes the centre of fun\, with parades\, concerts\, and street food every day and night. \nWhat makes Carnaval de Saint-Martin special? \n\n\n \nFrench-Caribbean mix: The carnival mixes French traditions with African\, Creole\, and Caribbean influences. This creates a unique style\, with colourful costumes and powerful rhythms. \n\n \nDay and night events: You can enjoy family-friendly parades during the day and lively street parties at night. \n\n \nCultural shows: Dance groups\, steel bands\, and traditional music fill the streets. It’s a great way to discover the island’s identity. \n\n \n“Grand Parade” and “Burning of King Vaval”: These are the two biggest moments. The Grand Parade is full of beauty and sound\, and the symbolic “burning” of King Vaval closes the carnival with emotion and meaning. \n\n\nFor sailors\, Saint-Martin is an ideal stop. There are safe and modern marinas on both the French and Dutch sides of the island: Marina Fort Louis\, Princess Port de Plaisance\, Lagooon Marina\,  Simpson Bay Yacht Club…). \nMarigot Bay\, on the French side\, is close to the carnival action. You can anchor your boat and walk into town to enjoy the shows. Shops\, French bakeries (Sarafina in Marina Royale is an institution)\, marine services\, and markets are easy to reach. \nDuring the carnival\, local people are welcoming and happy to share their traditions. It’s a great chance to meet islanders and other travelers in a friendly atmosphere. \nSo if you are cruising the Caribbean in early spring\, make Saint-Martin one of your stops. \nDrop anchor\, follow the drums\, and enjoy the spirit of Saint-Martin “The friendly island“!
