Esta festividad simboliza la victoria de la luz sobre la oscuridad y la renovaci\u00f3n de la vida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Una tradici\u00f3n clave del festival es la creaci\u00f3n de linternas, que originalmente se colgaban en las puertas para \u201ciluminar el camino\u201d, y que ha evolucionado hasta convertirse en un concurso creativo que se celebra la primera semana de diciembre. Los participantes, tanto j\u00f3venes como adultos, fabrican linternas con materiales naturales y reciclados, as\u00ed como con papeles de colores, representando diversos temas como la cultura local, edificios hist\u00f3ricos y dise\u00f1os imaginativos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La celebraci\u00f3n culmina la v\u00edspera del d\u00eda de Santa Luc\u00eda con el Festival de la Luz. Las festividades incluyen un desfile de faroles por Castries, acompa\u00f1ado de canciones y bailes navide\u00f1os, seguido de la iluminaci\u00f3n de la plaza Derek Walcott y un espect\u00e1culo de fuegos artificiales. Muchos negocios tambi\u00e9n contin\u00faan con la tradici\u00f3n de iluminar sus escaparates el 13 de diciembre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En 2013, el festival introdujo el Ritual de las Linternas, en el que una procesi\u00f3n musical hacia el puerto, encabezada por mimos tradicionales, lanza al agua linternas de papel que llevan los deseos y las plegarias de los asistentes para la temporada y m\u00e1s
